INNOVATION ON TWO WHEELS

From the passion for cycling comes the Italian company leader in sustainable mobility solutions. A successful model ready to conquer foreign markets.

A leader in the research and development of innovative products and solutions for the world of sustainable mobility, 100% made in Italy: this is the business model of Bike Facilities, which has conquered the Italian market and is now in the process of great expansion abroad. It all began in 2014, in Torbole, when the company was founded by Fabio Toccoli, driven by a great passion for two wheels and thanks to his long experience in the hotel sector. His, in fact, is the first Bike Hotel of Garda dedicated to cyclists. “From the needs of bikers and cycle tourists this adventure began,” says Toccoli.

Thus, in parallel with his activity as hotelier, Toccoli started to market columns for recharging and servicing bicycles. And only 10 years after its foundation, Bike Facilities now has more than 1,000 charging and maintenance points for bicycles installed throughout Italy. The first successful order was the positioning of the stations along the legendary ‘Dolomiti Brenta Bike ‘ – the network of ring routes for mountain bikes – installed in collaboration with the Adamello Brenta Nature Park. Since then, Bike Facilities has been telling a success story: among the brands that have chosen Fabio Toccoli’s columns are names such as Decathlon and Fastweb, Alperia, Ikea, La Sapienza University, Carosello 3000 and Paganella Bike Park, Garda Trentino, some South Tyrolean districts and many Italian municipalities.

“At the beginning,’ Toccoli explains, ‘ I formed a partnership with a foreign company that produced e-bike recharging columns and bike maintenance stations. The business took off immediately and I immediately became the exclusive distributor for Italy. The growing demand prompted me to implement the product range and pre- and after-sales services. Thus we consolidated our presence in the Italian market, where we are now present in all regions, from the north to the centre to the south’.

Now the next challenge is abroad. A path that has already begun: ‘We participate more and more frequently in trade fairs in the major European capitals and we are structuring a widespread sales network to move well beyond national borders. Demand in our sector is constantly growing and we want to be ready. We are already doing so. Our turnover abroad is constantly increasing.

Made in Italy is our calling card on foreign markets. ‘The entire Bike Facilities range is designed and manufactured in Italy,’ Toccoli emphasises. Control of the production chain also guarantees customisation. Charging columns and maintenance stations are all custom products. “Our Stop&Go columns are 100% customisable. They offer unique usability thanks to the careful study of each component by a team of experts”.

In addition to the Stop&Go line, there are many other products: smart bollards, modular racks (also in electric version for recharging e-bikes), Tube solar (racks with solar panels for parking and recharging e-bikes), street furniture products for the bicycle world, and modular shelters for parking and recharging e-bikes. The latter line, which allows bicycles to be parked by sheltering them from the weather, is ‘equipped with a stand-alone photovoltaic system with an accumulator that is not connected to the grid, a model with a charging bar to be connected to the grid, and a basic model for parking bicycles only’.

Research and development emerge above all in the marketing of the most innovative products. This is the case with the bicycle washing stations. “These stations of ours are made of corrosion-resistant stainless steel. They represent the first eco-friendly system for washing bicycles, with an extractor that separates the mud and oil from the water, so as not to mix black and white water. Thanks to special eco-friendly detergents supplied by us, it is possible to wash the bicycle at low pressure, preserving the integrity of the gears while saving on water consumption (only 2 litres of water per minute).

In the name of sustainability, the materials used for many processes are in line with green and circular economy models. This is the case with the containers used for some Bike Facilities bike stations. “These are our Container-BFs: containers used to produce our bike containers, made from new or first-grade used materials, duly processed and modified for their new purpose. Steel is to all intents and purposes a green material, as it is 100 per cent recyclable, does not wear out and can be reused almost indefinitely’.
