“Bici In Comune” Call for Proposals

13 Million Euros to Promote Cycling Mobility in Italy

On October 14th, the national call for proposals Bici in Comune was launched, an initiative promoted by the Ministry for Sport and Youth in collaboration with Sport e Salute and ANCI (National Association of Italian Municipalities). The project offers 13 million euros to encourage bicycle mobility, with the aim of improving urban quality of life and promoting healthier, more active lifestyles.

Project Goals

The main objective of Bici in Comune is to promote bicycle use as a tool for sustainable mobility, helping reduce pollution, enhance city livability, and foster a culture of environmental awareness. The project aims to involve Italian municipalities in various initiatives that encourage citizens to adopt cycling as an alternative to traditional modes of transportation, while also promoting physical well-being through outdoor activities.

The Four Strategic Pillars of the Initiative

The call for proposals is structured around four strategic action lines, designed to cover various aspects of bicycle mobility:

1. Promoting a Cycling Culture:

The goal is to raise public awareness of bicycles as an ecological means of transport, reducing the use of cars and other polluting vehicles. Educational and informational campaigns will aim to make biking a daily choice for urban travel.

2. Development and Improvement of Cycling Infrastructures:

A key focus of the initiative is enhancing infrastructure dedicated to cycling mobility, such as bike paths, racks, and safe routes. These improvements will facilitate and secure bicycle use, encouraging more people to take it up.

3. Promotion of Cycling Tourism:

Italian cultural and scenic heritage can also be highlighted through cycling tourism. The project aims to encourage tourism by bike, which is not only an ecological option but also allows people to discover the natural and historical beauty of the area, creating new economic opportunities for local communities.

4. Organizing Events with Active Citizen Participation:

To spark interest in biking and strengthen community bonds, events open to the public will be organized. These events, both competitive and non-competitive, will actively involve citizens, promoting a dynamic and healthy lifestyle.

A Commitment to the Sustainable Future of Italian Cities

Bici in Comune represents a major opportunity for Italian municipalities to contribute concretely to the transition towards more sustainable and environmentally friendly mobility. Thanks to the funding available, municipalities can carry out initiatives that improve quality of life in urban areas and foster a culture of sustainable mobility. Increased integration of cycling into daily habits, supported by adequate infrastructure and local initiatives, will not only reduce environmental impact but also improve the health and well-being of the population.
